DeLonghi Infuser Replacement
7313251441 vs 7313251451 — which kit you need, how to tell, and how to replace it

What Is the Infuser (Brew Unit)?
The infuser — also called the brew unit — is the removable assembly inside every DeLonghi super-automatic espresso machine that compresses the coffee grounds, forces hot water through them, and then ejects the spent puck. It contains a piston, two rubber O-rings that create the pressure seal, and a set of gears driven by the motor.
The O-rings are consumable. Over time they flatten, crack, or harden — and when they fail, the brew unit can no longer hold the 8–15 bar pressure needed to extract espresso. The O-ring kit (often called the "infuser kit") is the most common DeLonghi repair.
Average lifespan: 2–4 years or ~3,000–5,000 brew cycles before O-rings need replacement. Hard-water use without regular descaling shortens this significantly.
-
Signs Your Infuser Needs Replacement
- Dry, crumbly grounds in the dump box (no compressed puck)
- Weak, watery, or under-extracted espresso
- Machine makes grinding noise but produces no coffee
- Repeated "grounds" error or brew unit error even after cleaning
- Visible cracking or flattening of the O-rings on the brew unit
- Coffee channeling (uneven wet spots on the puck surface)
- Machine leaks from around the brew unit area
First step: Remove the brew unit and rinse it thoroughly under warm running water. Reinstall and run a blank cycle. If dry grounds or weak extraction persists, proceed with the O-ring kit replacement.

Which Infuser Kit Do You Need?
DeLonghi uses two different infuser kit part numbers depending on the machine generation. Using the wrong kit will result in improper sealing.
Part Number Fits These Machines 7313251441 Older ESAM-generation machines: Magnifica (original), Perfecta, PrimaDonna (classic), Autentica, Caffe Corso — approximately 373 models with "ESAM" model numbers 7313251451 Newer ECAM-generation: Magnifica S, Magnifica XS, Magnifica EVO, Eletta, Dinamica, Dinamica Plus, PrimaDonna S, PrimaDonna S+, PrimaDonna Class, PrimaDonna Soul, PrimaDonna Elite — and also the Dedica EC685 portafilter machine Quick check: If your machine model number starts with "ESAM," you almost certainly need 7313251441. If it starts with "ECAM," you almost certainly need 7313251451. Still unsure? Check the label on the bottom of the machine or email us your model number.

How to Replace the DeLonghi Infuser Kit
Tools needed: None — this is a tool-free repair on most models.
Time required: 15–25 minutes
- Power off and unplug the machine. Remove the water tank and drip tray.
- Open the side panel. On most machines this is the left side — look for a latch or button. The panel swings open to reveal the brew unit.
- Unlock and remove the brew unit. Push the PUSH button on the brew unit, tilt it slightly, and pull it straight out. If it's stuck, gently wiggle — don't force it.
- Rinse the brew unit thoroughly under warm water. Do not use soap or submerge it fully — just rinse off grounds and oils.
- Locate the two O-rings — one near the top and one near the bottom of the piston shaft. They look like small rubber rings seated in grooves.
- Remove the old O-rings using a fingernail or a blunt plastic tool. Do not use a metal pick — it can scratch the piston and damage the seating surface.
- Install the new O-rings from the kit. Lubricate them lightly with the included food-grade silicone grease (or a small amount of petroleum jelly). Seat them firmly in the grooves.
- Reinstall the brew unit. Slide it back in until it clicks into place. It should move smoothly — if it drags, re-check the O-ring seating.
- Run 2–3 blank cycles (no coffee) to seat the new O-rings before your first espresso.
If the brew unit is cracked, has broken gear teeth, or won't move freely, a full brew unit replacement (not just the O-ring kit) may be needed. Contact us for diagnosis.

When to Bring It to Us
The O-ring kit is a good DIY fix. But bring the machine in if:
- The brew unit itself is cracked or a gear is broken
- The brew unit motor doesn't turn (electrical or mechanical failure)
- Replacing the O-rings didn't fix the dry-puck problem
- The machine won't eject the brew unit at all
- You're seeing error codes alongside the brew unit issue (may indicate PCB or sensor failure)
We stock both infuser kits and complete brew units for all DeLonghi super-automatics. In-shop repair in Berkeley (Mon–Fri 12–5pm by appointment) and mail-in repair nationwide.
