Lelit Espresso Machine Issues
Authorized Lelit service provider — troubleshooting guide for all Lelit machines
-
Low or No Espresso Pressure
Common causes: Worn group head gasket, blocked shower screen, scale buildup in boiler, failing pump, or incorrect grind size.
Diagnosis steps:
- Check the pressure gauge during extraction (should read 9 bar)
- Remove and inspect the shower screen for scale or coffee buildup
- Replace the group head gasket if it's cracked or hardened (recommended annually)
- Run a full descale cycle — scale buildup severely restricts flow
- If pump is making unusual noise, it may be failing
- Adjust grind coarser if the shot is pulling too slowly (< 20 seconds)

Temperature Management: Single Boiler vs. HX Machines
Lelit Anita (single boiler with PID): The Anita uses a 250ml brass boiler with PID temperature control. Because it's a single boiler, it uses the same boiler for brewing and steaming — so you'll need to wait for the temperature to drop back down to brew temp after steaming. The PID makes this easier to manage than older single-boiler machines.
- Allow the machine to reach full brew temperature before pulling shots (watch the PID display)
- After steaming, wait for the boiler to cool back to brew temperature before the next shot
- The 3-way valve on the Anita will dry out the puck after each shot — this is normal
- If temperature is inconsistent despite stable PID readings, the boiler may need service
Lelit Mara X, Elizabeth, Bianca (HX/dual boiler machines): These machines require a cooling flush before pulling espresso shots.
- After the machine heats up, run 2–3 oz of water through the group before your shot
- After steaming milk, always do a longer cooling flush (4–5 oz)
- If shots taste sour, the brew water is too cool — reduce flush amount
- If shots taste bitter, brew water is too hot — increase flush amount
- If temperature swings are extreme, the thermosiphon circuit may be blocked — professional service needed
-
Steam Wand Problems
No steam or weak steam:
- Blocked steam tip holes — remove tip and soak in hot water or clear with a pin
- Steam boiler scale — descale immediately if you haven't done so in 3+ months
- Steam solenoid valve issue — may need replacement
Steam wand won't close (continuous drip):
- Steam valve O-ring worn — replace the steam knob valve assembly
- Steam tip partially blocked causing back pressure
- On Lelit Bianca: check the steam paddle valve for wear
-
Water Leaks
Leak from group head:
- Group gasket needs replacement (most common — replace annually)
- Shower screen screw loose
- E61 group head mushroom valve stuck open (Mara X, Bianca, Elizabeth — not applicable to Anita, Anna, or Fred which use Lelit's own group head)
Leak from boiler or fittings:
- Stop using the machine immediately to prevent electrical damage
- Boiler fitting threads may have corroded — professional repair needed
- Expansion valve (OPV) dripping is normal during heating — abnormal after warmup
Leak from water reservoir area:
- Reservoir O-ring worn or improperly seated
- Reservoir cracked — requires replacement
